Fatal Parachuting Incident in Puerto Vallarta

A 29-year-old man died in Puerto Vallarta after his parachute apparently failed during a skydiving activity contracted with a local company. The victim was identified as José Fernando Torres López, from Guadalajara, Jalisco, and was on vacation in this place. According to preliminary reports, on Thursday the young man boarded a small plane that took off from Puerto Vallarta airport and, minutes after 1:00 PM, jumped when the aircraft was flying over the Playa de Oro area. Witnesses stated that the parachute did not open, causing the man to fall directly into the sea in front of the maritime terminal area. People in the area observed that he was descending without control and alerted emergency services; following the report, aquatic rescue and fire department personnel deployed an operation to locate and recover the body. The remains were taken to an area known as 'Los Peines', where personnel from the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office (FEJ) initiated the corresponding procedures to determine responsibility. Authorities are investigating the conditions under which the activity was carried out, as well as a possible failure of the equipment used for the jump. Authorities are preparing to reinforce safety measures among service providers in anticipation of the Holy Week vacation season.
